Zumvo is the alias of Russian musician Sasha Artemyev. His new limited edition cassette Разводы (Stains) is out now via Zurkas Tepla‘s Moscow-based CANT label. According to Tepla, the two have been associates for the last twenty years. Reflecting on their past, he explains: “Actually, once upon a time we also played in the same band, recorded music together, and walked around Tushino.”

Describing his colleague as a “good-natured rascal,” Tepla clarifies this description by further explaining that Artemyev’s mischievous ways are not the result of a deceitful streak, but instead come from a more “cheeky” and “child-like” place. Zumvo, then, seems to be the perfect outlet for this artist’s playful ways. Разводы‘s wandering structure laces together snippets of conversation, vocal goofing, random samples, and, most importantly, smokey, laid-back funk jams straight from the outer space minds of Artemyev and his musical cohorts.

Разводы is being released as a very limited edition cassette with handmade covers from Tepla and his daughter Alice, with no two alike.
